Product Description
TotalBoat TotalFair marine epoxy fairing compound is easy to mix, easy to spread, and easy to sand to a super-smooth finish.
Fast-curing formula is great for filling, fairing, shaping, and repair applications on properly prepared fiberglass, wood, aluminum, steel & existing 2-component paints and primers in good condition.
Fairing removes the highs and lows so a surface is level or 'fair'. It can mean filling holes and shallow voids, reshaping contours, or grinding down bumps to blend in with the surrounding surface.
TotalBoat TotalFair is a versatile, moisture-resistant epoxy fairing compound and filler ideal for boat building and repairs above and below the waterline. Its simple 1:1 mix ratio is easy to get right - even for beginners, and it won't sag on vertical or overhead surfaces. Here are a few of its many uses:
- Fill & fair small gouges and dents on wood, fiberglass, aluminum, & steel hulls before priming/painting.
- Fair the entire hull surface during wooden boat construction or repairs.
- Smooth out gelcoat imperfections above the waterline, prior to painting.
- Fill gelcoat blisters below the waterline before finishing with an epoxy barrier coat and antifouling bottom paint.
- Reshape and fair damaged underwater appendages such as the rudder and keel for added speed.
- Fill holes after removing hardware.
When it's solid green, it's ready to use.
We made the components of TotalFair brightly colored so it's easy to tell when the fairing compound is properly mixed. The epoxy component (Part A) is yellow and the hardener component (Part B) is blue. Just combine 1 part epoxy to 1 part hardener in equal parts by volume & mix thoroughly with an epoxy spreader or putty knife until the putty is a solid green color. When it's green, it ready to go.
At 80°F, it's ready to sand in just 3 hours.
TotalFair is best applied in temperatures from 50-100°F, but you'll find it easiest to spread in temperatures above 60°F. At 80°F, it's ready to sand in just 3 hours. Another thing to note is the time you have to spread and shape TotalFair. Working life is dependent on temperature, so measure and mix only as much TotalFair as you can apply during the working life indicated for your conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How soon will TotalFair be ready to sand?
A: At 80°F, TotalFair is ready to sand in just 3 hours.
Q: Can I apply gelcoat over cured TotalFair?
A: No. Gelcoat will not cure properly if applied directly to cured TotalFair. Before applying gelcoat, overcoat TotalFair with an epoxy barrier coat or epoxy surfacing primer such as TotalBoat TotalProtect or TotalBoat 2-Part Epoxy Primer.
Q: Fiberglass hulls tend to flex with use and in certain conditions. How does TotalFair stand up?
A: It cures to a hard material that holds up well, and has a high tolerance for flexibility.
Q: Over the winter, my containers of resin & hardener got clumps in them. Can I still use them?
A: Storing TotalFair in temperatures below 60°F causes crystallization, which can be fixed by placing the sealed tub of TotalFair into a few inches of water heated to 150°F (or put tub in a zipper-type plastic bag and remove all air in the bag before placing it in hot water); add hot water as needed to maintain 150°F temp.
