Product Description

The Autowbrake is a self-contained fully functional, electric brake control that mounts where it truly belongs - on the trailer.

With the Autowbrake, you can get emergency braking or general braking from your trailer brakes automatically. This means that, unlike time-delay controllers - which send the same amount of preset power to your trailer brakes every time - proportional controllers are able to adapt to every braking situation differently. As you approach your stop your trailer will gradually brake in the same manner as your tow vehicle. Just set the initial power level, and you're good to go.

Installation and Calibration

AUTOWBRAKE INSTALLATION

We recommend having an industry professional install your Autowbrake trailer mounted electric brake controller.

For the DIY’s…

SELECT MOUNTING LOCATION

We recommend mounting close to the trailer junction box/ usually on the trailer frame, however other options are fine (ie: in cabinet, inside trailer etc.) Autowbrake can be mounted in any direction and any angle for ease of installation. Once you decide on the location it’s time to match up wiring.

WIRING INSTRUCTIONS

Familiarize yourself with your trailer’s wiring diagram. You will need to locate 5 wires on your trailer. Check your trailer manufacturer’s operation manual. We recommend
Trailer Brake - Normally Blue
Power - Normally Red or Black
Ground - Normally White
2 brake wires - Check trailer manual for brake wire colors

Connect all wiring (splice into harness directly if you are not able to get to a junction box or have a trailer with hard wiring harness only) We strongly recommend utilizing junction box to connect the Autowbrake wires.

Locating brake light wires:
Turn on tow vehicle ignition and plug trailer into vehicle just like you are ready to tow. Turn on vehicle hazard lights or have someone inside vehicle press and hold down the brake pedal. Use voltmeter to locate brake light voltage and connect brake wires (green and yellow) on the Autowbrake controller.

POWER CONNECTION

Test and locate the 12 volt power source (Red/Black wire, check trailer manual). Connect the Autowbrake power wire to this wire either at junction box as recommended or direct splice into trailer harness. Attach the other wires to their corresponding sources as recommended.

  • Connect blue trailer wire to Autowbrake blue wire

  • Connect red/black power wire to Autowbrake black wire

  • Connect trailer white ground wire to Autowbrake white wire

  • Connect left trailer brake wire to Autowbrake green wire

  • Connect right trailer brake wire to Autowbrake yellow wire

We always recommend having lights on while towing for safety reasons.

CALIBRATION PROCESS

Calibration is required the first time you install your Autowbrake, or when relocating your Autowbrake.

Connect trailer to tow vehicle and plug in connections. Be sure to calibrate on a level driveway or parking lot, because this allows Autowbrake to determine what the common towing position will be.

Have one person get in the vehicle and press the brake pedal (turn vehicle ignition to on position and have trailer harness plugged into tow vehicle). While the brake pedal is depressed, have the other person go back to the Autowbrake and depress both buttons at the same time until the LED indicator lights on the Autowbrake stop flashing. Your Autowbrake is calibrated.

HOW TO CHECK/CHANGE AUTOWBRAKE SETTING

Press gain button while depressing brake pedal. Flash settings:

Setting 1:  1 slow flash 3 times in a row (Up to 3500 pounds)
Setting 2:  2 slow flashes 3 times in a row (3500-6000 pounds)
Setting 3:  3 slow flashes 3 times in a row (7000-12000 pounds)

Never exceed your recommended tow vehicle capacity.
