How to Install the New Fuel Pump:
· Coat a new fuel pump gasket with gasket sealer. Do this on both sides.
· Put the attaching bolts through the new pump and slip the gasket over the bolts.
· Install the new pump on the engine. Make sure that the rocker arm in the pump is against the eccentric inside the engine, or that the push rod is correctly installed in both the engine and the fuel pump.
· Attach the fuel outlet line that runs to the carburetor.
· Connect the line to the pump, and then reattach the other end to the carburetor. Use a wrench to hold the pump fitting and tighten the line nut with another wrench.
· Attach the fuel inlet hose from the gas tank, and the vapour return hose (if the vehicle is equipped with one)
· Reconnect the battery ground cable, start the vehicle and check for leaks.
Replace Your Fuel Pump When:
Oil smell in car
The smell of oil in the car was too pungent to bear.Usually,a whining noise from the fuel tank area. Most fuel pumps will produce a quiet hum during their normal operation, however, an excessively loud whine coming from the fuel tank is usually a sign of a problem. There may not be enough fuel, a damaged pump, or contaminated fuel inside the system.
Replace Your Fuel Pump When:
Difficult to start in cold weather
An engine that is hard to start or won’t start at low temperature. If the fuel pump fails completely — to the point of not being able to provide enough fuel for the engine to run, the vehicle will refuse to start. The engine will still crank when the key is turned, but it will be unable to start due to the lack of fuel. A no-start situation can also be caused by a variety of other issues, so having the vehicle properly diagnosed is highly recommended.
Replace Your Fuel Pump When:
Stalling at High Temperatures
Stalling can happen because of multiple problems within a vehicle but pay attention when it happens frequently at high temperatures shown on the car’s thermometer. A rising temperature paired with stalling often indicates a problem with the fuel pump motor. If stalling continues to occur with an increasing temperature gauge, it could indicate the fuel pump’s deterioration and need for replacement.
Replace Your Fuel Pump When:
Low Gas Mileage
If it seems like you’re filling up your car more than usual, it may be because of an issue within the fuel pump. A valve within the fuel pump may not be opening, causing more fuel than necessary to pour into the engine system. Excess fuel in the engine does not get stored or used.
