Driven by Innovation: Delphi’s OE DNA
When it comes to choosing the parts for steering & suspension systems, turn to Delphi. We’re known all over the globe for our rich OE heritage. Now we’re bringing our steering portfolio to North America. Whether you’re a technician or a DIYer, use Delphi steering & suspension parts for your vehicles.
Is something wrong with my suspension?
If the car makes noises while turning, it could be a sign of a worn ball joint.
If the suspension bushing (located at the inner end of the control arms) is worn out, steering problems and abnormal tire wear may happen. Replace the bushings in this case.
Here are some simple ways to diagnose suspension problems:
- Check all of the mounting nuts and bolts to be sure the problem isn’t being caused by looseness.
- Inspect any visible parts such as bushings, ball joints, and steering linkages. If you see any damage it will need to be serviced or replaced.
- Shake the steering wheel quickly, turning it left and right ninety degrees. There should be no excessive free play or knocking noises. If the car has power steering, do this with the engine running.
- Check rack and pinion as well as associated parts. If any of them are damaged, the part needs to be replaced
- When raising the vehicle, use a lift or jacks approved for the weight of the vehicle.
Tech Tips

Always tighten components to their correct torque as specified by the vehicle manufacturer in its loaded position, not wheel-free, to prevent additional stress when the vehicle is lowered to the ground. |
Designed to restore performance, the new replacement parts will have less play and will set the wheels at a slightly different angle. |
Check the wheel alignment after replacing any steering or suspension component to prevent excessive tire wear. |
Delphi Ball Joints. Smooth Operation for OE Performance.
The ball joint’s constant motion subjects it to significant stress and wear. If it is worn out or its rubber boot splits or cracks, it needs to be replaced. Make sure to replace the entire ball joint and not just the boot. A damaged boot can let in contaminants that could corrode and/or impact the smooth feel of the ball joint.
Benefits of our ball joints include:
- Improved boot durability thanks to a chloroprene rubber dust cover.
- Smooth joint operation made possible by a superior ball pin finish and coated nylon ball pin seat. Delphi ball joints are machined to micron tolerances (0.001 mm) to assure durability. Our rotational torque matches OE specifications for long-lasting service.
- High specification grease that matches OE specifications for durability even in extreme road conditions.
