Coolant + Brake Fluid Double-Ended Test Strip Solves Two Problems
The Coolant + Brake Fluid Test Strip, designed by Phoenix Systems measures the corrosion of your brake fluid, as well as the freeze/boil point of engine coolant. With a double-ended design, Coolant + Brake Fluid provides the auto repair shop with an affordable and effective way to determine when to replace both coolant and brake fluid.
BrakeStrip provides a visual reference for brake fluid corrosion levels
Over time brake fluid wears out leaving the brake system vulnerable to corrosion. Of particular concern are the sensitive ABS components. High levels of corrosion can cause the ABS system to fail during an emergency stop. Testing your brake fluid helps you stay aware of when your system is in need of a fluid replacement, preventing costly repairs to the ABS and other components.
CoolantStrip shows when the coolant needs to be changed
Improper pH levels and varying glycol percentages can cause serious engine problems. If your vehicle is running on substandard coolant, the engine can overheat extremely fast, leading to mechanical breakdown and engine failure. CoolantStrip provides the visual recommendation of when you need to replace the coolant within the system, preventing costly damage to the engine.

Brake Corrosion
Substandard Coolant
Coolant + BrakeStrip both deliver Scientific Proof
Proof in 60 Seconds
For either the CoolantStrip or BrakeStrip, in as little as sixty seconds you have clear, repeatable and reliable proof of the fluid level conditions. The CoolantStrip effectively measures the pH level and glycol measurements, while BrakeStrip provides evidence of the corrosion within the brake system. Each test indicates the safety levels of their corresponding fluid.
CoolantStrip
Because CoolantStrip uses a proprietary integrated glycol color metric scale, it can be used with all coolant colors, including conventional coolant as well as long life, extended life, Dex Cool and Low Tox coolants. Once dipped in the coolant reservoir, the color will change in direct proportion to pH level and glycol percentage indicated on the back of the bottle.
BrakeStrip
Once your brake fluid has reach 200ppm, it is deemed unable to properly protect your brake system from iron corrosion. This is when the ABS system and other components begin to break down due to high levels of corrosion. Once dipped in the fluid contained in the master cylinder, the color of the test will change in direct proportion to the corrosion levels indicated on the back of the bottle.
- Follows MAP guidelines
- Compatible with all coolant colors
- Integrates glycol color metric scale
- Helps you comply with the California Auto Repair Act
Each end of the strip requires two simple steps.

What to do if a vehicle has degraded engine coolant
We don't recommend leaving substandard coolant within the engine, as it can lead to engine breakdowns, and increase wear and tear. Improperly formulated coolant leaves engines prone to overheating, which can significantly decrease the engine life.
What to do if a vehicle has corrosive brake fluid
We don't recommend leaving corrosive brake fluid inside a brake system, as that can lead to premature failure and expensive repairs. When it comes to a brake system, preventative maintenance is the best and least expensive method to provide safety, confidence and longevity. Outside of fluid replacement, we also recommend an anti-rust treatment called BrakeShot. BrakeShot helps prevent future Rust and can be added to used or new brake fluid. You can purchase BrakeShot at Amazon.
Change brake fluid and coolant when needed
For both CoolantStrip and BrakeStrip, there are certain levels that indicate the corresponding fluid is unfit to properly protect the system. The best remedy in this case is to replace either the coolant or the brake fluid. New brake fluid will prevent future corrosion and extend the life of critical brake parts. New coolant will help the engine continue to run properly without overheating and prevent mechanical malfunctions. Both replacements ensure the customer's safety.
Continue testing at each oil change
A service center should continue testing both systems at each oil change and document the results. Over time the customer will be able to see the levels of each test and when the time is right be prepared for a needed brake fluid or coolant replacement.
